Public Hearing – August 2016

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse is holding a public hearing into the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle at Newcastle Courthouse (343 Hunter Street, Newcastle) from Tuesday, 2 August 2016. The Commission is inquiring into the experiences of survivors of child sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy and lay people involved in or associated with the Diocese.

Background to the Commission

The ABC 730 Report has produced two reports on the Diocese. We warn that the reports contain material that may trigger survivors of abuse.

Response from the Diocese of Newcastle

In June 2015, Bishop Greg Thompson made a public apology and committed the Diocese to facing the past and shaping a healthy future. He gave a powerful address to the community.
